Introduction to ADHD

Course Overview

This short course provides a basic introduction for SNAs/ANAs working with students with ADHD. It aims to help SNAs/ANAs build the knowledge, confidence, and strategies to support these students. 

Participants will explore what ADHD is, and what it is not, addressing common misconceptions and gaining a clearer understanding of how ADHD can impact learning, behaviour, and relationships in school.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will:

  • Understand what ADHD is—and what it is not—by exploring facts and common misconceptions.
  • Recognise both the strengths and challenges associated with ADHD through a neuroaffirmative lens.
  • Identify how ADHD may present in school settings and what this means for your student.
  • Explore a variety of practical strategies to support students with ADHD.

About the Author

Caoimhe Webbley

Caoimhe Webbley is a primary school teacher living in Dublin, with more than 20 years’ experience as a mainstream class teacher and SET. In 2025, she completed an MSc by Research in Neurodiversity through UCD. Her research area focused on how primary teachers build relationships with students with ADHD.

Caoimhe has pursued a lifelong commitment to learning and professional growth. She completed a Degree in Information and Communications Technology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Technology & Learning through the Dept of Computer Science at Trinity College Dublin. She undertook her teacher training in the UK, completing a PGCE at St. Mary’s University, Strawberry Hill, Twickenham. More recently, she embarked on a learning journey in inclusive education with a Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Neurodiversity from UCD (2022), before expanding her research interests for her Master's degree.

Caoimhe has also worked in Marino Institute of Education, where her roles included module facilitator for the Professional Master of Education and School Placement Tutor.
