Therapeutic Art in Education

Course Overview

This course will provide teachers with practical therapeutic art techniques for their own enhanced wellbeing and for use in the classroom.

We will explore art making for wellbeing with experiential exercises, self-reflection and resources that demonstrate the therapeutic benefits of art making.

Art making techniques and exercises will be linked to the visual art curriculum strands throughout and the course will equip teachers with knowledge and understanding in how to incorporate a more creative and holistic approach to art making in the classroom.

We will also explore our own relationship with art making and engage in art making activities in each module.

About the Author

Rachel Byrne

So, nice to meet you! My name is Rachel.

I'm a practicing artist, graduating from IADT Dun Loaghaire with my art degree in 2017.

Since then I've worked with teachers and children in primary and post primary schools facilitating full class workshops, group workshops and one to one art sessions.

I am a qualified Art Psychotherapist, receiving my MSc in Art Psychotherapy from Ulster University. I currently work with children and adolescents across a variety of settings including Primary Schools.

Throughout this course I hope to pass on some of the learning I've gained throughout my training as an Art Psychotherapist in a way that's practical and useful for the classroom and also for teachers to use as part of their own self care with their own wellbeing in mind.

I hope you enjoy the course and best of luck!
