Course Overview
Anger is a big emotion, and the outbursts it can trigger are often stressful and challenging to manage in a school environment.As an SNA, you play a crucial role in helping children navigate their emotions—but knowing how to respond effectively, without escalating the situation, can be tough. This practical and engaging course will give you a clear understanding of anger—why it happens, where it comes from, and how to support children through it. You’ll walk away with three essential steps to help children regulate their emotions while maintaining strong boundaries without using shame or fear. By the end of this course, you’ll feel calm, prepared, and empowered to support children experiencing anger—helping them feel safe, understood, and better equipped to manage their emotions in school.
This course is designed specifically for SNAs, offering real-life tools that can be easily implemented in the classroom.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
- Understand the root causes of anger and outbursts through the lens of child development and brain science.
- Hold boundaries with confidence while keeping connection, relationship and esteem intact.
- Use movement and play to help children both regulate and release big emotions.
About the Author

Hayley Rice
Hayley Rice is a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist specialising in Play Therapy. A former primary school teacher, Hayley works closely with Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) to provide practical strategies and resources that help support students with a range of needs, including anxiety, anger, sensory processing, and emotional regulation.
Hayley’s approach is grounded in building positive, trust-based relationships between SNAs and students, creating inclusive learning environments where all children can thrive. She offers training, workshops, and resources to SNAs to empower them in their work with children, helping them foster a supportive, nurturing atmosphere in the classroom.
As a dedicated advocate for children’s emotional well-being, Hayley is passionate about providing SNAs with the knowledge and tools they need to support students' unique needs and help them achieve success both academically and personally.
